Understand what 'reading' means for Claude
When you upload a document, Claude can hold hundreds of pages in its context window — its working memory. It genuinely reads the whole thing, so you can ask about page 312 and page 4 in the

- Account
Paid plans handle much larger documents and longer conversations. A 500-page PDF is comfortable on Pro; the free tier may need the file trimmed first.
- Have ready
A contract, an annual report, a technical spec, a policy pack. PDF works best; Word is fine. Scanned image-only PDFs are the one weak spot — see troubleshooting.
- Know-how
'What are the termination clauses?', 'What does it say about price increases?', 'What dates matter?' Having real questions ready is what turns this from a demo into a tool.

Either the hosted version or a self-hosted install. Everything here works the same on both — the only visible difference is the shape of your webhook URLs.
