Understand what artifacts can build

An artifact is a real interactive app Claude writes and runs inside your chat — buttons, inputs, calculations, charts. It's published with a link anyone can use, no account needed.

Checkpoint

Your idea is one screen, one job — and you know the rules it should follow.

Before you begin

Tick these off as you sort them. Stopping halfway to create an account is how a fifteen-minute build becomes an hour.

  • Account

Artifacts work on all plans; paid plans allow longer build-and-refine sessions before you hit limits.

  • Know-how

Think tiny and specific: a quote calculator for your services, a shift-swap planner, a freelance rate checker. One job, done well. Not 'an app for my business'.

  • Know-how

If it's a calculator: the actual pricing logic. If it's a planner: the constraints. Claude builds exactly what you describe, so the logic has to come from you.

The basics — ticked once, remembered everywhere

  • Account

Either the hosted version or a self-hosted install. Everything here works the same on both — the only visible difference is the shape of your webhook URLs.

    Create a workspace
  • Know-how

Adding a node, connecting two of them, and pressing Execute. If any of that is new, the free primer covers it in about ten minutes.

  • Credential

You will paste at least one secret during setup. A password manager beats a notes app, and it stops you pasting a live key into a chat window by accident.
